Johny Gaddar ---- Movie Review

Two Movies in two consecutive weeks , both Suspense Thrillers and both being very Different from each other , yet fantastic entertainers . My last review was on Manorama .... & that one was a surprise package and now this one is on Johny Gaddar which is another surprise package coming from a director who has made only one movie i.e. Ek Hasina Thi ( Urmila & Saif Starrer ) .
Johny Gaddar as the name suggest involves a Traitor & the whole movie surrounds It ( I am not mentioning the sex bcoz that's the secret ) . Well the movie involves a gang whose leader is Dharmendra (as Sheshadri ) and it involves four other members
Star Cast
Neil Mukesh...... Vikram
Zakir Hussain
...... Shardul
Vinay Pathak
...... Prakash
Dayanand Shetty ... Shiva .

The movie revolves around a Drug deal worth Rs. 2.5 Crores and how things happen dramatically around this deal . The movie is inspired from Old Classic Thrillers like Parwana (*ing Amitabh Bacchan & Naveen Nishchal ) and Johny Mera Naam ( *ing Dev-anand ) . The storyline is a typical Pulp Fiction Novel type involving Sex , Crime & Violence yet it keeps the Viewer bound to it due to the Suspense element in it . The movie is shot in Film Noir genre , much like Quentin Tarantino's (Kill Bill fame ) Movies . This seems to first of its kind yet there have been similar attempts in the 70's and 80's in Bollywood itself .

Apart from everything , the movie is a worth a watch and will be liked by suspense and action lovers . The new boy Neil Mukesh ( Son of singer Nitin Mukesh ) performs quite well & makes his presence felt among other great actors . The movie is well shot and well directed . Sriram Raghvan comes out of the Shadow of RGV and proves his Mettle as a director . Considering Ramu's movies going nowhere maybe he should appoint him ( Ramu ) as an assistant . Rimi Sen plays her part well and the remaining cast also does well . The common factor among Manorama.. & Johny Gaddar , Vinay Pathak , again proves that he is more than a mere comedian .

On a whole the movie is one of its kind & worth a watch , go for it , you'll love it . After this I hope Sriram Raghvan will get some courage to make another of this kind , perhaps on a bigger scale . The movie gets three Stars ( *** ) from my side for its distinctive style & fast paced storyline .

Rating : *** Worth a watch .

INDIA WINS ! ! ! ---- Dhoni The Gambler wins the last Hand

SOURCE-ICC Official Website

There was no time to chew finger-nails or even think of thumping hearts as India's bowlers dug deep in their self-belief in successfully defending its low total of 157 for five to lay its hands on the ICC World Twenty20 crown with an emotional six-run victory over Pakistan at the magnificent Wanders Cricket Stadium.

There could not have been a more hard-fought contest than this one, with there being many heroes again, the team being the biggest. Gautam Gambhir (75) and Rohit Sharma (30 not out) managed the Indian innings at either end of the 20 overs and helped India to 157. Rudra Pratap Singh and man of the match Irfan Pathan took three wickets each to keep India in the hunt.

Pakistan had its stellar performers too. Umar Gul led the bowling as Pakistan kept India's batsmen in check; the two spinners Mohammed Hafeez and man of the series Shahid Afridi were instrumental in applying the brakes in second quarter of the Indian innings. And when it batted, opener Imran Nazir (33) and Misbah-ul-Haq (43) kept their chins up.

India's two left-arm seamers made the difference between winning and losing, when the bowlers were left the task of defending 157. With Mahendra Singh Dhoni leading the team with a calm and assured head, the team embraced the never-say-die spirit to keep Pakistan at bay, especially after Nazir gave the chase a fantastic start with 21 runs off S Sreesanth's first over .

Pathan finished with three for 16 – a perfect response to Gul's figures of three for 28. He claimed the wickets of Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi in an over to swing the game India's way until Misbah-ul-Haq waded into Harbhajan Singh by hitting the off-spinner for three sixes in an over. The faster bowlers returned to stop the Pakistanis in their track.

With Sohail Tanvir also claiming two sixes of Sreesanth, Pakistan was in the chase but the fast bowler claimed his revenge and then bowling the final over, Joginder Sharma got Misbah-ul-Haq to play the lap shot to the man at short fine leg to complete an amazing win and cap a tournament in which the Indians died several deaths but refused to give in.

There really was no time to do anything but keep eyes on the ball during the thrill-a-minute contest that advertised the beauty of T20 cricket.
And as the DJ played the title track from Chak de! India, there was not a dry eye in the stadium. The Pakistani fans were in tears that Misbah-ul-Haq took the side so close and could not seal the win. The Indians could not control their emotions any longer and let the tears flow. Some tried to sing along and realized their voices were choked.

Shfting Focus ---- T20 World Cup

Wow India Wins Again !!! Once Again India makes its way into the Finals beating Australia . And its a dream Final for any Indian or Pakistani supporter . Well I am watching 20-20 World cup for two reasons one being India after a long time playing as a team & other being the Beautiful Girls who dance each time there is a boundary .

One of them is just out of this world . No doubt apart from 20-20 Format the Girls are also a hit .

Well India has some bad luck for Finals just as the South Africans have for the Semis' . Still will support India as India is playing superbly . Lets see . No doubt the Monday would be full of DRAMA and Excitement just Like an old Bollywood Flick . Hoping it would have a same HAPPY ENDING .

Do vote on the Poll in the sidebar .

MANORAMA -- Six Feet Under

As they say pleasure always comes in small packages . So true for this movie , a very little publicised and hyped movie but a must watch for movie lovers . For me it is a great suspense thriller that has released after a long time . The movie for a change is not based in a metro but instead it is based in a small town of Rajasthan . The cinematography is Top notch for the movie bringing out the true beauty of Rajasthan .

Now talking about the script the movie revolves around a novel writer who writes a detective novel which gets flop . He gets a detective job considering there being no Detective agency in small town by a mysterious women who asks him to spy on the Minister of the state . Then starts the series of events in which the lead actor ( Abhay Deol ) gets entangled in a Power Game and is being trapped by the Minister ( Kulbhushan Kharbanda ) . The movie has a lot of suspense and twists hence I am not disclosing any details of the story .

Abhay fits perfectly in the role of Writer " Satyaveer ".

He is a brilliant actor & in fact quite lucky also . I say so bcoz he always got Movies in which there was a good story . Gul Panag makes a come back on big screen and plays the role of his wife well . Then there is Raima Sen who is also brilliant in her performance. The background score of the movie is also great with not even a single sound being missed . The two songs which are there in the movie suits the situation . I forgot to mention Vinay Pathak who plays a Police Inspector in the movie and as usual pulls it off very well . He should get better roles in which he could show his limits . His performance stands out very well among others .

The director Navdeep Singh does a fine job and should receive an applause . It is really a very Brave Attempt and comes out really well . The last suspense movie that I saw " NAQAAB " being " UTTER CRAP " I would like to say that we don't always need a Director Duo & an " Inspired " Script to make a good suspense Thriller .

The Movie gets Three Stars - - *** from my side & I would recommend it . It is a must watch especially for people who like Suspense Thrillers .

Harry Potter Biggest Film Franchise Ever!

Source--- DHD

With the success of this summer's Harry Potter And The Order of the Phoenix, Warner Bros announced today that its five Harry Potter films have combined to become the top-grossing film franchise worldwide in history. It surpasses even the box office total of all 22 James Bond and 6 Star Wars franchises, with two films yet to come -- Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The combined worldwide box office gross for the five Harry Potter films to date is in excess of $4.47 billion even as The Order Of The Phoenix is still going strong in theaters around the globe. In addition to holding the franchise box office record, all five of the Harry Potter films are among the 20 top-grossing box office hits of all time. The next Harry Potter film, Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, will open on November 21, 2008. The seventh and final film, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, is planned for a 2010 release. None of this comes as much of a surprise since the Harry Potter films have truly been a cut above in terms of production and casting with perfect plotting provided by J.K. Rowling. Still, the studio should be congratulated for keeping up the quality. And Warner Bros Entertainment and Universal Orlando Resort have "The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter" coming to Universal’s Islands of Adventure theme park in late 2009.

Two in One - - - Twins in Limelight

Hollywood's Love for twins has always been in news . There have been several twins who have claimed to fame due to their twin status. The one main reason is the chemistry between the twins is just amazing apart from biology . Well we all now the Olsen Twins who have appeared in several TV shows and Films together . For those of you who don't know they first appeared in the famous TV sitcom " Full House " in the role of Michelle Tanner . They were hired at the age of six months, and filming began when they were nine months old. The show was widely popular during the late 1980s and early 1990s, and both sisters played the same character taking turns during the tapings to do so, in order to comply with strict child labor laws regarding child actors. For the first year, Ashley would cry when she was brought on set to do a scene, so Mary-Kate had more screen time in the first season. Then after this they did many films and TV sitcoms together .

They established a company called Dualstar in 1993 and their brand has been sold in more than 3,000 stores in America and over 5,300 stores worldwide. Because of this, they have been on the Forbes . "The Celebrity 100 list" since 2002. In 2007, Forbes ranked them, collectively, as the eleventh-richest women in entertainment, with an estimated net worth of $100 million.

Well you would also remember the hit film " Baby's Day Out " . The character of Baby Bink was played by the Worton twins, Adam Robert and Jacob Joseph .

Then there is "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody" which is an American children's television series that airs on the Disney Channel . The series stars Dylan and Cole Sprouse. They play Cody and Zack Martin, identical twins, whose single mother, Carey, is the headlining singer at the Tipton Hotel. Now they live in a five-star hotel in Boston as a provision of her contract. The series has spawned two video games: one for the Nintendo DS entitled "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody: Tipton Trouble" and a titular release for the Game Boy Advance .
Well the trend seems to be catching in India also. The recent TV commercial of UTI Bank (Now AXIS) featuring the twin girls is been very well received among the Audience .
After Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, Sony TV is gearing for another out-of-the-box storyline with their new show, Ambar Dhara. The show revolves around twins joined at the hip, who grow up in the mountains. For all practical purposes, they are two different entities with different aspirations but share the same body. Trouble begins when their mother passes away and one of the twins aspires to be a singer. To pursue her career, she wants to come to Mumbai. Thus begins the Siamese twins' journey in life, with twists and turns. The show, produced by Siddharth Kumar Tiwari and Vikas Seth of Swastik Pictures, will feature two newcomers. Apparently, the new actresses, tied at the hips, are finding it a bit inconvenient to shoot. The show is being shot in Panchgani.
Ambar Dhara is touted to be Sony TV's TRP grabber even before the show has settled.

AAJA NACHLE ----- Trailer review

Aaja Nachle --- Madhuri is Back

The much awaited comeback film of Madhuri Dixit , Aaja Nachle's trailer is out now and to be fair its not that good . The teaser trailer is too short and can appeal only to die hard fans of Madhuri which I think exist in small numbers today. Its been a long time since any one has seen her onscreen & I don't think this trailer would do any good. I don't think she is that big a star in today's scenario and hence would not be able to attract the masses on her own. The teaser should have had some hint of the story line to work. The film is written by Jaideep Sahni who also wrote Chak De India . Considering chak de's success one thing is sure that at least the writing would be good for this one.

Yet the trailer is a disappointment and I think Laga Chunari Mein Daag (Yashraj's Next) had a better trailer than this one . Aaja Nachle is been directed by Anil Mehta who is a well known Cinematographer and this is his Debut film. Anil has done cinematography for several films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam & Veer Zaara. The movie also stars Akshaye Khanna , Konkana Sen & Kunal Kapoor.

Lets see ahead. Will Madhuri's Charm hit gold or not will depend on story of the film. The trailer is even worse than Om Shanti Om's trailer. Thumbs Down for this one.
